ENGLISH RENAISSANCE BIBLIOGRAPHY FINDING-LIST

ENG 9200H: 1480-1660

New College, Department of English
University of Toronto, Toronto, Ont. M5S 1A1

Version 1: April 1993

This collaborative effort aims to help acquaint English doctoral researchers at Toronto with the wealth of local material available in a wide range of disciplines mainly outside English studies.

The finding-list was compiled by the doctoral students of my ENG 9200H (Bibliography II: 1475-1660) in the Department of English, University of Toronto, during the late 1980s. They were asked to select the fifty most useful bibliographical entries for a topic and to locate these works at one of the libraries in the University of Toronto. Several sections needed almost one hundred entries. Texts from the period, or primary historical sources, had the first priority.

Those responsible for individual sections are Patricia Baxter (biography), Ron Cooley (printed books, Church of England), Richard Giles (dictionaries), John Greenwood (John Greenwood), Stephen Guy-Bray, Elizabeth Hanson (law, music), Ann Kaegi, Walter Lim (Church of England), Christina Luckyj (architecture and geography), Louis Mirando (printed books), David Parkinson (law), Mark Sebanc (dictionaries), Elizabeth Silaj (manuscript catalogues), Rochelle Simmons (architecture and geography, arts), and Karen Widdicombe (government publications), and Greg Williams (science, classical mythology).

Library identifiers and shelfmarks are local to the University of Toronto. I have not checked all items, although several sections have been done twice (for example, I have revised the dictionaries section).

Corrections, additions and comments are welcomed.
