Jackman Humanities Institute

The Jackman Humanities Institute (JHI) has announced several programs for which they are accepting proposals:

  • New themes at the JHI. Each year the JHI organizes many of its activities around a theme. Fellowships (12-month Faculty Research, Mellon Postdoctoral, Graduate Dissertation, Undergraduate) and the Programs for the Arts are selected with the themes in mind. They will now be picking annual themes for the three subsequent years, and are eager to hear suggestions. The deadline is 12 February 2010. For more information download the flyer (56 KB).

  • The JHI Program for the Arts. The JHI Program for the Arts supports (up to $3000) a range of smaller events that may include distinguished visitors, lecture series, symposia or other imaginative initiatives. The Program gives priority to activities that are related to the 2010-2011 theme of the JHI - Image and Spectacle - and to interdisciplinary activities, especially those that engage students and faculty on more than one campus. The deadline is 26 March 2010. Download Call for Proposals (88 KB).

In 2004 our department put on an interesting series of events under this program. See the flyer (37 KB). Please send any ideas you have to the Chair of Linguistics.
