It is with great pleasure that we introduce the inaugural
issue of a new journal titled TRANSverse,
a publication led by the graduate students of the Centre for Comparative
Literature at the University of Toronto. This journal has been established
to provide a forum for the exploration and discussion of significant problems
in literary theory and important issues of literary history not confined
to a single literature. The Editors wish to present articles that show
the many facets of comparative literature as a discipline, and in so doing
they hope to encourage an interdisciplinary approach linking literature,
linguistics, the visual arts, music among other fields in the Humanities,
as well as works of original fiction, poetry and art. Submissions in languages
other than English are welcome. The aim of this journal is to bear witness
to the vitality and the diversity of the discipline
and to its specific significance at the University of Toronto.
