Mail Problems Resolved

July 06, 2011

Mail should now be flowing normally again. The problem with inbound mail was identified as a DNS lookup issue preventing RBL's from being properly queried. We are now looking at solutions to prevent this from happening in the future.

The problem lasted for about 4 hours, during which time most inbound mail was being temporarily rejected. It should arrive over the next few hours and much of has already been received. We apologize for this inconvenience.

Mail Receipt Problems

July 06, 2011

We have been experiencing problems with inbound mail for the last little while (start of problem tbd) as there is an issue looking up remote servers in our real time black holes lists. The cause of the issue is under investigation and for the time being, RBL lookups are disabled.

Mail Sending Problems

June 21, 2011

As the mail server receives the backlog of mail that was delayed due to the issue reported earlier, the load on the server reaches levels where the system refuses to accept new connections. This may result in problems relaying mail out until things stabilize. We apologize for this inconvenience and are working to restore proper service as soon as possible.

There were interruptions to inbound mail beginning sometime yesterday evening. Although we think the problem is resolved now, the root cause is under investigation.

Mail Account Migrations

August 25, 2010

Please note that if you haven't yet had your mail account migrated to the new systems, we'd like you to do this ASAP. The migration is painless and you always have access to your mail. It generally takes about 20 minutes of your time.

Mail/Web Outage Overnight

April 15, 2010

We experienced an outage of one server last night that affected mail and web service for some of our users.

The host origin.chass.utoronto.ca failed overnight. This interrupted mail service for users not yet migrated. It also affected the primary CHASS website and personal project sites hosted on this machine.

As of 8:45am, service has been restored. We're investigating the cause of the failure. Please let us know if you're still having any issues. We apologize for the inconvenience.

New mail servers

March 19, 2010

We just sent a note to our users to inform them of the general availability of some new mail servers at CHASS.

We'd like to move our users' accounts from the old systems to the new ones. The migration is fairly simple and does not involve any outage for you in terms of accessing your mail. Your email address does not change and your contacts will not notice any difference when sending mail to you.

If you have any questions about this, please contact us at support@chass.utoronto.ca.

Short outage

March 03, 2010

Today there was a short interruption of web and email services when one of our servers had to be rebooted.

Change in spam policy

February 26, 2010

Please be advised that in the next week or so, there will be a change in how we handle your 'Spam' mail folder.

Presently, spam is stored until you explicitly delete it. We're changing this such that spam is automatically removed after 45 days. Please ensure that you review your Spam bin periodically if you're worried about false positives in our scoring.

If you have any questions about this, please contact us at support@chass.utoronto.ca.
